Welcome to Ryan's Film School! Where the magic of film, TV, and video comes to life. My hands-on workshops and after-school clubs are designed to ignite creativity in young minds and help them discover their passion for storytelling and the art of filmmaking.

Whether crafting a viral TikTok video or producing a short film worthy of the festival circuit, my courses offer the perfect blend of fun and learning, setting the stage for the next generation of content creators.

Workshops

My workshops are offered to schools during term time, and give students the chance to dive deep into specific areas of film production.

From screen acting to cinematography, each workshop can be tailored to fit the student’s current projects or needs, or can be delivered as a fun introduction to the many roles in Film, TV, and Video production!

5 week film school

This intensive after-school program takes students through the complete filmmaking journey over five weeks. From script to screen, students work together to produce short films, gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of the process.

By the end of the course, students walk away with their completed film and a USB loaded with raw footage and resources.

For those who want to continue learning outside of the classroom, our online resources provide everything needed to refine your skills at home.

From production templates, to sound effects and extra YouTube videos these resources empower students to take their projects to the next level, ensuring they have the tools to keep creating long after the workshop ends.

The Tools to Create

From the latest Blackmagic cameras to industry-standard software like DaVinci Resolve, my students leave equipped not only with practical skills but also with their own digital toolkit.

With every course and worskhop, students receive footage, editing resources, and professional-grade apps that they can continue to use long after the workshop ends, ensuring that their journey in filmmaking doesn’t stop when class does.

 FAQs

  • Ryan’s Film School is like a traveling circus, bringing workshops all over the UK! While I’m primarily based in the West Midlands, I love visiting schools across the country. If you’d like me to visit your school, get in touch!

  • I’ve worked with students aged 5 to 25. While not all topics suit every age group, I offer tailored workshops for younger children to give them their first taste of making films and TV shows. 

    For older students, I dive deeper into specific topics, inspiring them to learn through practical, exciting experiences.

  • Pens, pencils, and notepads are always handy in my workshops. Since phones are a big part of our lives, I recommend students download the HollyView app before attending so they can patch into the camera’s live feed during the workshop!

  • I recommend that workshops are ran in 2-3 hour sessions, but they’re flexible to fit your timetable. If you have room for a longer-term project, students can experience the entire production process over several days or weeks, giving them a deep dive into filmmaking—and having a blast along the way!

  • Currently, my workshops are hands-on and delivered in person. However, I’m planning to introduce online editing workshops and livestream career Q&As soon! Follow me on social media to stay updated, and feel free to suggest what you’d like to see.

  • To have me visit your school and run a workshop or after-school program, get in touch via my contact page or email ryan@ryansfilmschool.co.uk. We’ll arrange a time to discuss your needs!

  • YES! Students from the after-school clubs and holiday camps all receive the final project to keep and they can use this work for their filmmaking or acting showreels and start building their portfolio right away.

    At the end of each academic year I plan to host cinema screenings for schools and students to meet and share their work and notable projects from the 5 Week Film School will be put forward for festivals to celebrate the student’s success!

  • Quite simply, me, Ryan. I’ve lived two lives working with both children and young people, and in the film, TV and video world for over 10 years now and Ryan’s Film School brings those two worlds together. 

    My workshops are built around real-world projects that aren’t just about filmmaking—they’re about helping students develop key life skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking. We focus on building confidence by giving students hands-on experience with equipment and processes that prepare them not just for a career in film or TV, but for other paths as well.
